Challenger Education

A student-focused app for e-commerce, event booking, and tech news. Built to grow Challenger’s presence in the education sector by offering exclusive tech products, workshops, and articles in a single mobile platform.

Gift Redemption App

Background

Challenger launched a mobile app to better serve students and schools with a tailored experience separate from its main retail platform. The goal was to offer exclusive education pricing on devices, alongside curated content and skill-based workshops designed for a younger audience. We needed to design a simplified shopping experience and integrate learning features—all without overwhelming users. This required a UX approach that balanced commerce with education while remaining lightweight and engaging.

Purchase Journey

The app’s store interface was designed to be familiar with popular e-commerce apps, while retaining some of the key features of Challenger’s online store, such as the progress indicator.

Checkout was simplified with clear payment options, selectable delivery address, date and time, and a final review screen.

Users earn points for every dollar spent, which can be used to offset future purchases or redeem gifts.

Events & Workshops

The app also includes access to free student events, such as workshops on digital tools and app tutorials.

Students can register directly within the app, with clear details on each event’s topic, location, and date. Points are credited to their accounts upon attendance.

TechZone

A dedicated content hub offering curated tech articles, product reviews, and student-focused recommendations. Users could browse trending gadgets, discover hidden device tips, or dive into how-to guides—all tailored to enhance their academic and digital lifestyles.

Designed for light reading and daily engagement, TechZone made it easy for students to stay informed and inspired.

Profile & Rewards

The Profile tab centralized user account management, event history, and engagement tools. Students could view their membership level, track earned points, unlock badges, and redeem exclusive rewards like discounts or freebies.

Features like “Refer & Earn” encouraged sharing, while the Inbox and Customer Support tabs kept users updated and informed. Together, these elements built loyalty and encouraged consistent app use.

Impact

This was the largest UX project I’ve led to date. Balancing business goals, user needs, and engineering constraints, I delivered a complete product design that achieved the following in the first 30 days of it’s launch.

Our goal was to transform the process into a digital solution that was efficient, secure, and centralized — while being user-friendly enough for any staff member to use with minimal instruction.
